I’d eat a sleeve of saltines with you
I’d eat a sleeve of saltines with you
or a tray of little smokies
wrapped in dough
maybe even wrapped in bacon.
I’d eat half a box of Oreos with you
even the low-fat ones
swiped from an open window
when I ran off with you
giggling behind the dorms.
Not because I like stealing
not even because I like Oreos (I do)
mostly I just like
making you laugh.
But really
if it were up to me
I’d eat a five course dinner with you
from smoked trout to chocolate pie.
Every perfectly paired wine
I’d drink white and red
linger over creamy decaf.
Not because I need fancy food
Not even because I need chocolate pie (I do)
Mostly I just like
hearing you laugh
all night.
